In Central Florida there are really only 3 things you can count on: heat, humidity, and cockroaches. These hardy, enduring pests can survive for up to two weeks without their heads and can run as fast as 3 miles per hour! How do you combat creatures like this? By learning about them and having a great pest control service like Superior Spray Service.
When dealing with roaches in Florida, it's crucial to understand their behavior and habits to effectively combat infestations. Cockroaches, particularly the German and American roach species, thrive in Florida's warm and humid climate. These resilient pests can enter homes through cracks, crevices, and even sewer systems, making them difficult to eliminate without professional intervention. Understanding common hiding spots such as kitchens, bathrooms, and dark, moist areas is key. Additionally, being aware of the health risks associated with cockroach infestations, including allergies and the spread of bacteria, underscores the importance of prompt roach control measures.
Do not leave unwashed dishes, kitchen utensils, and uncovered food out overnight. Clean up all spilled liquids. Clean areas beneath and behind cabinets, furniture, sinks, stoves and refrigerators often, as well as cupboards, pantry shelves and storage bins where particles of food frequently accumulate. Make sure your trash can lid has a good seal. Seal any cracks, gaps or holes near doors, windows, pipes and vents. Fix any leaks that give roaches access to water. Be vigilant for signs of roaches, such as droppings, shed skin and eggs. No matter the species, a cockroach infestation can happen to anyone and pose a threat to you or your property. If you notice these insects invading your space, act fast.

Nearly identical in appearance, German and Asian roaches are two of the smallest species globally. They both measure 12-16 mm in length and are prolific reproducers. German cockroaches are commonly found indoors, while Asian cockroaches prefer outdoor habitats. Asian cockroaches can fly, unlike their German counterparts.
Often confused, American and Australian roaches share similarities in size and flying abilities. Both grow to 30-45 mm and are adept fliers. However, they differ in coloration and habitat preferences. American cockroaches, lighter in color, favor moist, warm environments like drains and sewers. Australian cockroaches, darker in hue, typically reside outdoors and feed on plant matter.
Common in central Florida, Florida Wood Cockroaches are reddish-brown, about 1.5 inches long, and lack fully developed wings. They primarily inhabit outdoor areas like woodpiles and compost, posing minimal threat to humans but may cause irritation due to defensive secretions.
With a deep mahogany color and a length of about 38 mm, Smoky Brown Cockroaches are strong fliers attracted to humid environments. They are carriers of diseases like tuberculosis and cholera and can trigger allergies and asthma due to their secretions.
Pale green or light brown in color, Cuban Cockroaches are also known as banana roaches. Growing up to 2 inches long, they reside in tree canopies but may be attracted to light, potentially entering homes. While not highly invasive, their presence indoors can be a nuisance.
You can be assured Superior Spray Service only uses the safest materials in our pest management practices to get the desired results. Customers will need to assist in making sure all entry points are sealed properly at windows and doorways and that any furniture is not blocking areas you would like us to treat.
After treatment, on occasion, a property owner may come across a stray bug or a couple of ants that have wandered in. Please remember that all of Florida is a tropical climate and that seeing a bug here and there does not necessarily constitute a pest problem. However, if you see multiple bugs or trailing ants, please feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to take care of these problems as fast as possible.
It is best to save a sample of any pests that may have entered your home so that they may be identified correctly. For ants, this can be done by lightly touching the ant with a piece of Scotch tape. There are various ways that we will take care of different issues, so proper identification is very important.
